About Manchester Mega Mela

Manchester Mega Mela (MMM) is the largest Mela in the North of England – it has been established since 2003 and takes place successfully each year. Music, dance, food and traditional arts and crafts bring the sights, sounds and spicy aromas of South Asia to Platt Fields Park, Manchester. The Mela is a two day fun-filled event which takes place in the summer.

The Executive Committee comprises representatives of the five South Asian nations – Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

MMM has featured in the Sunday Times as part of their top 100 summer days out in 2017, been awarded Winner of the Festival of the Year award in 2017 and nominated for the prestigious Oracle Award and also UK Bhangra award in 2019.

Manchester Mega Mela Performances

Main Stage

The Main Stage programme of ZEE MANCHESTER MEGA MELA 2020 Mela will be hosted and presented by ZEE TV. Previous hosts have included BBC Asian Network, Brit Asia TV, DM Digital & Sunrise Radio.

Stalls

A huge selection of food stalls will be serving a mouth-watering range of authentic South Asian food. Trading stalls will also offer a wide range of products from traditional and contemporary clothing to music and crafts.

Chai Serai Marquee

With a chai cafe and seating provisions, gives the mela-goers an opportunity to relax and enjoy a community led stage programme of classical, contemporary dance and music. Performances by local school children are an added attraction. It also includes classical and contemporary dance items in addition to vocal and instrumental music. 

Arts & Crafts

The Arts and Crafts marquee provides an opportunity for non-performative emerging artists of South Asian origin to display their talents and for the mela goers to participate in the various workshops. In the past, the programme has included traditional crafts such as rangoli, henna painting, face painting, block printing, etc.
